Global Data Pool Provider Makes the Perfect Dive into Test Automation

The Challenge

A technology team of ~30 employees spread across multiple continents at a global data pool provider was relying on manual processes to complete its testing efforts. The company had multiple nonintegrated systems running in isolation and different teams performing tests within each of the systems and subprocesses. These manual and disjointed testing processes led to elongated release cycles and increased operating costs.

The Solution

The first step was to determine the company’s current delivery and operational maturity by identifying potential gaps and opportunities. These results would form a blueprint of the company’s next-generation quality assurance (QA) automation platform. Leveraging NessQ, Ness’ test automation platform as the foundation, Ness supported test case automation to help achieve 80%+ automation of the regression suite for the company’s item management and digital catalog portals. This is accomplished by using Selenium, Maven, Java, Node.JS, Rest Assured, TestNG, BrowserStack, Grid, Extent Reports, Pdf Box, Guava, and GSON. During this time, the test pyramid is fine-tuned along with the development of API test plans for the item management and digital catalog portals (with the goal of 95% test automation coverage). Lastly, user interface (UI) test cases for the digital catalog portal are developed and executed.

The Results

As a result of this multi-stage test automation transformational journey, the company expects to:

  • Improve time to market by 80%
  • Reduce total cost of ownership by 80%
  • Increase platform test coverage from 30% to 95%
  • Reduce test effort per test cycle from on average 90 person-days to <2 person-days
  • Reduce compressed test cycle time from 5 calendar days to <.5 calendar days
