Brandywine Global Investment Management LLC migrates workloads from on-prem data centers to AWS Cloud for enhancing performance & speed up digitization efforts

The low-cost cloud infrastructure enabled scalability, resilience and reduced operational costs.

Overview

Brandywine is specialist investment manager for Franklin Resources, Inc. and provides a range of differentiated fixed income, equity, and alternative solutions.

Challenge

With its legacy infrastructure throwing up multiple challenges, the company had to quickly move their data center to cloud. The key concerns they faced include, inability to adapt to business needs, poor resilience, failure to scale, difficulty in building and deploying new solutions, and time lag in upgrading their data center.

Solution

Ness being an AWS Premier Consulting Partner, was BrandyWine’s choice to take on this migration challenge. Ness leveraged its deep knowledge on AWS Migration Acceleration Program (AWS MAP) and implemented the journey in three key phases – Assess, Mobilize and Migrate.

After the Assess and Mobilize phases, Ness AWS experts, developed the architecture and migration cutover plan by dividing the application into four tranches. The migration was grouped together thematically into technology, business, dependencies, and other factors.

Ness performed the Migration using AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), a highly automated lift-and-shift (rehosting) solution. The cloud migration enabled Brandywine to lift-and-shift many physical servers without compatibility issues, performance disruption, or long cutover windows.

Outcomes

  • Simplified and reduced the cost of Application Migration to AWS
  • Noticeable cost savings due to variable expenses (pay as per use)
  • Improved productivity by quick and easy lift and shift workloads with no changes to applications or workflows
  • Ability to automatically convert and launch their servers in AWS
  • Operational resilience through enhanced availability, security, and compliance
