A Leading Financial Services Firm Implements an Automated Hybrid DR Solution to Ensure Business Continuity
The solution increases the efficiency, stability, and availability of their processes through a seamless automation Disaster Recovery (DR) strategy.
Overview
As the world’s largest equity Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO), the client is dedicated to promoting stability and market integrity by delivering top tier clearing and settlement services for options, futures, and securities lending transactions.
Challenge
The client wanted to create an on-prem DR version of the clearing and risk systems on the internal VMware cloud as a backup to the AWS cloud version due to SLAs driven by regulators. The client was looking for a partner with the expertise to define and implement an automation strategy that is easy to provision and scale and matches or improves the DevOps automations implemented on the cloud version of the platform.
Solution
The automation strategy included the creation of an architectural blueprint and on-prem equivalent options for cloud components, with options for missing components and processes from the cloud version (e.g., CI/CD, secrets management). It also contained a detailed transition strategy, including data replication issues between cloud and on-prem platforms. To validate the proposed strategy, the Ness team developed a POC by leveraging the VMware Cloud on AWS in the absence of a ready, on-prem VMware infrastructure.
Result
Ness’s automation strategy increased stability and availability and enabled 99.99% of the SLA and 99.9999999% application uptime. It helped significantly reduce the duration of their release process from a few days to hours and shrunk the operational maintenance window from an overnight, multi-day process to about an hour.
