The Radar Logging and Replay (ASPlogger) enables the recording and archiving of an Air Situation Picture (ASP) received from different data sources, and provides comprehensive tools for ASP replay. Through an intuitive HMI, the user is given a set of advanced tools, including 3D presentation, to perform ASP debriefing and flight-safety analysis.
The ASPlogger provides the following functionality:
• Radar Data Interfacing
• Recording and archiving
• Graphical ASP presentation
Functionality
Radar Data Interfacing
The ASPlogger is capable of handling various radars and system protocols. The communication interfaces are via Serial connections (RS-232, RS-422 synchronous or asynchronous) or a LAN (Local Area Network).
Recording and Archiving
The ASPlogger records data on local hard disks (usually in RAID configuration) for short-term archiving. The long-term archiving on magnetic tapes is performed upon operator's request. The system checks the magnetic tape before writing onto it the recorded data, to avoid unintended deletion of previously recorded data. Data written to the magnetic tape is automatically verified after the archiving is completed. The system stores a log of the archiving operations to enable that the next archiving will continue from the point where the previous archiving was terminated.
Playback Workstation
The Playback Workstation enables the users to perform their tasks by providing the required displays of the recorded ASP, together with a variety of support tools. The following capabilities are provided in the Playback mode of operation:
• Playback definition - Selection of playback time range
• Playback Control - Activate, show frame (step-by-step), pause, resume, playback speed, time skip, and playback stop
• Display control: Change scale (zoom in, zoom out)
o Center (move, specify, home, dynamic)
o Maps display selection
o Tracks display (source radar, altitude filter, symbol and label structure, trail)
o Color control
• Utilities:
o Distance measurement
o Hook (track, radar)
o Pointer location display
• Tracks:
o Display of specific tracks
o Extended track data display)
o Dynamic measurements
o Track Color
• History (up to 3 hours)
o History points labels
o Static measurements
• Radars
o Extended radar data display
o Range rings
Basic Configuration
The ASPlogger consists of the following components:
• Serial Link Interface (SLI) - for radar interfacing and data recording
• Playback Workstation
Advanced Configurations
Several Playback Workstations can be connected, and work in parallel. For example a Playback Workstation in the Technical Section and another Playback Workstation in the Research Section can work simultaneously. For backup purposes two SLI's that are working simultaneously can be used
