Ness has developed anti-tank missile trainers employing a general solution applied to three different types of missiles: DRAGON, TOW, and the MAPATS of the Israel Military Industries. The TOW and DRAGON trainers were developed and supplied to the U.S. Army in large quantities under the PGTS (Precision Gunnery Training System) program.

System Description

The TOW (Tube-launched, Optically-tracked, Wire-guided) Gunnery Trainer is a crew portable trainer that simulates the sights, controls, switches, and indicators of the TOW Weapon Guided Missile System. Battlefield scenes including both threat and friendly vehicle targets are presented through the sights. The gunner can select, track, and engage a target with the controls and switches. The simulated blast of the TOW and the singing of the wire can be heard through the headsets. The gunner can track the target with sight crosshairs on the center of the target and see hit or miss explosions as well as hear them by turning the control knobs. The gunner can also hear commands from the instructor station, as well as the battlefield sounds of small arms and guns firing. The mission score is displayed at the end of each mission. A mission can be replayed or stored for future use. A copy of the Mission Performance Results can be made by using the optional printer. The TOW Trainer also includes a library of missions.
