Butler Group: Ness Managed Labs Benefits ISVs
Adopting a “realistic approach” to offshore software R&D via a solid methodology and customer partnership model, Ness Managed Labs offers a “strong” value proposition to independent software vendors (ISVs), according to the Butler Group. In its October 2005 technology audit of Ness’ Managed Labs division, Butler points out that with ISVs looking to increase productivity in an era of higher R&D costs, many are opting to buy research and development expertise. Leveraging its experience in establishing and running extended development centers (EDCs) for some 20 vendors at its facility in Bangalore, India, Ness “offers ISVs a way forward for R&D that they may not have considered previously.”
Butler notes that Ness’ offering is anchored by its strong methodology, which is used initially to create the EDCs and then to operate and manage the centers via a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model. Butler also favorably views Ness’ customer partnership model, which features a policy of not working with ISVs that are direct competitors of existing customers. By combining this solid methodology and partnership model, Ness offers a “realistic” approach to offshore software product development, helping ISVs accelerate their R&D process at lower costs.
