In an effort to radically upgrade its infrastructure to retain corporate knowledge and foster collaboration among scientific, business, and legal departments – while ensuring the security of confidential information and minimizing the leakage of its intellectual capital – Emisphere partnered with Ness Technologies, a leading provider of knowledge management and collaboration solutions to the life sciences industry.
Emisphere and Ness concurrently produced two concrete results:
- A “strategy roadmap” to permit information within existing data repositories and legacy systems to be surfaced to appropriate users in a secure manner, while accommodating the need to capture new knowledge and information as new information systems and business processes arise.
- Recommendation to proceed with the implementation of an enterprise portal using Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration according to the vision of the strategy and roadmap. Using a “cookbook” approach, Ness recommended best practices of implementing a SharePoint solution utilizing both SharePoint Portal Server and Team Services, and a methodology to develop a taxonomy and content categorization, as well as a prototype for a Human Resources dashboard, including specific web parts to implement and customize.
The process of arriving at these results involved performing interviews with senior management from various departments at Emisphere; inventorying its existing knowledge repositories; researching and identifying the appropriate technical vendors to meet Emisphere’s needs; prioritizing Emisphere’s various knowledge management initiatives; and developing a launch and content/application migration strategy.
